Imagine a world where ingredients are interchangeable across notebook platforms. Interchangeability achieves this by ensuring ingredients are developed according to a common set of specifications. These ingredients are known as Common Building Blocks (CBBs). Notebook platforms are then designed and tested for interchangeability with those Common Building Blocks. With interchangeability, We are able to offer increased customization capabilities, improved ingredient choice, availability with simplified inventory which in turns allows us to build and service units quickly thus reducing cost which we can pass directly to our customers.
Common building Block (CBB)
The CBB program consists of 7 standardized parts so it’s important to make sure customers know that the VBI notebooks meet all 7 requirements. The standardized parts include Hard Drive, Optical drive, Keyboard, LCD Screen, battery, AC Adapter, and LCD "A Cover" panel. Having standards among these parts, not only allows you to share components from different models in a manufactures product line but also share them from different manufactures. For example, a CBB keyboard from a Compal CBB notebook could be used in an ASUS CBB model as a replacement if needed. Not all components will necessarily be able to share across models i.e There are two A/C adapter for all CBB skus. 65W for share type VGA. 90W for discrete VGA (dedicated VGA). The tips are all the same but you can't use 65W adapter to power up discrete VGA mode another example The hard drive is standard but the hard drive holder is not the the same across all CBB units.
